UnSung Review (Bone Thugz n Harmony)

I have been watching UnSung since the beginning, and I must say that last night's episode is, was, and will always be the episode that hit closest to home!!!   Not only did TVone dedicate this episode to one of the hottest group of the 90's, but they gave it to BONE THUGZ N HAROMNY!!!

When I say that I have been practically raised by this music I AM NOT lying!  The hood is a place filled with dreamers on another level...  You have to be very intelligent to dream...YOU have to be very aware of your surroundings to even know that there is something more in life than you have.  If you don't understand what I am trying to say let me take a moment to get you understood real quick.  I DON'T have much time because I have to discuss Bone Thugz...  The hood is a circumstance.  It's an obstacle course and a challenge.  Just like anything else in life.  The only difference between the hood and everything else in life is you can't escape it.  If if you try you really don't want to.  It molds you and shapes you into the person that you are.  IM GOING TO FAR! #poetry... I'll revisit this later... We are talking about UnSung right?? I mean we were dishing bout Bone Thugz right?? So let's continue.

Bone released a single called 'First of the Month' which til this day is a hood anthem.  The reason being is because they are speaking on a reality that has affected every project boy and girl across America, and maybe even beyond.  They rapped about parents and adults receiving government paychecks which to most ghetto children was the best thing next to Christmas.  When that first of the month check came in it was time for a great week.  Kids were possibly getting new clothes, the water might have got turned back on (exmaple), and FOOD may be on the table in a much desired fashion.  Now I am not saying everyone in the hood had the exact same hardships, but somehow some way we were taught to understand each others situations.  That made for an even better experience.

Death was common in the years of Bone Thugz.  They suffered a lot of loss as a group before they were even famous.  One of the worst moments of their lives together was losing friend and mentor Eric "Eazy E" White.  Eazy E helped Bone Thugz rise to fame.  He even looked up to them in his own way despite his senority in age and the industry.  Eazy unfortunately passed away from the AIDs virus.  His death was almost tragic because no one was aware of his illness yet he passed soon after he announced it.
These terrible events led to another single from Bone  titled 'Cross Roads', which was an instant smash!  Cross roads was released in 1996 from Bone Thugz album 'E. 1996' which was in homage to Eazy E.  The video used to scare the SHIIIIIIIII outta me at 9 years old I ain't even going to lie!! Oh but let me get on track... Bone dwelled in this darkness and gained a reputation for a dark and eerie sound.  This sound made them world famous and even granted them the title of Cleveland's hometown heroes!  After Eazy died, the group struggled.  They didn't know who to trust nor could they keep themselves under control at all times.  Drugs and alcohol played a major role in Bone Thugz diminishing career in the late 90's along with a sense of security, and inexperience without guidance.

One fine year  (circa 2007) Bone hooked up with producer/ musician Akon and created another masterpiece.  'I tried' was a hit off of their latest album 'Strength and Loyalty'.  Akon put together a song that brought Bone Thugz back to their fans in a major way!  It sounded like everything Bone was, and when the boys spit their verses you felt every word!  All of this happened with only 3 of the members recording on the album. Krayzie, Layzie, and Wish Bone were adamant about keeping the group alive.  That's exactly what they did.  'I tried' was the highest chart topping single for the guys in 10 whole years!

Flesh n Bone spent 8 years in prison.  Layzie Bone suffered some serious substance abuse, and the group still lives on!  If you are not a fan of Bone, I'm not knocking you for not being from the hood, but I am telling you that this group has been a very important part of a lot of peoples lives.  To see them succeed is all one could ask for.  Since that has already happend for over 20 years there's not much more you can say.  JAREBEARSAYS thank you Bone for your contributions to music.  One day we will see your induction into that Rock n' Roll Hall of Fame, and Lord willing you all will see it too!   I'm glad my good people took a few minutes out of their busy day to chill with me.  I know I can be long winded, but If you didn't hear the latest anywhere else.  You better know....
